Friday 5th August and it's our lovely Lisa's birthday, happy birthday xxx
It's also our first full day on the gold coast. We wake up with the sun streaming in the window and the forecast estimating 25 degrees. Easy choice of what to do, take the 20 minute trip up the freeway to our first of three theme parks - Wet 'N' Wild. After getting quick directions from the reception and being told how brave we are as it's freezing outside (it's so hot, but I suppose it's not in comparison to their summer!). Les jokingly said we'll probably get lost to which we're told it's not possible.
We set off and after approximately 200 yards we took the wrong turning and got lost! There followed a bit of emergency map reading and after ending up in a random shopping centre we found our way onto the M1 freeway to the park. On arrival we got given our special come as often as you like photo cards then into the park.
We had no time to pick up a beach bag or rucksack so had our belongings in carrier bags - very Chav - but the plan was to get a locker for the day ($9.00) and just go back and forward. We wandered into the shop where the locker tickets are purchased and that was when Les realised he had left his wallet in the hotel room! Just enough money for a bottle of water in change - hurrah!
We got changed and Les walked barefoot across the car park armed with the carrier bags to the car and deposited all the belongings in the car!
All the time we could see clouds coming in from the north. After a time it got quite overcast and in the shade was quite cool, not ideal for a waterpark. The good thing was the water was still quite warm. The rides were incredible, too amazing to describe but we'll bring home the park map which will make it easier. I will say about one ride which was a tube with a full loop the loop. To get on it you are shut in a capsule, you hear it count 3, 2, 1 and then the floor you were standing on disappears and you drop into the tube with high power water that hurls you around the loop and throws you out the other end - insane!
After a while of cloud cover we cooled right down and decided to leave. The good thing about the pass is that we can use it as often as we like whilst here. Incredible that the first overcast day of the holiday came in the "Sunshine State" of Queensland! Still it was still quite warm.
Back to Burleigh Heads for Calum to go in the pool. Sun is out again, brilliant!
