Anyway, into the airport and to the booking in machines. Guess what? Not recognised! So off we went to the enquires desk/Quantas sales desk. We are not with them but are flying with Jet Star who are run by Quantas but are not Quantas. We are directed to the other end of the airport and that's where we see the queue that is the organised chaos of the Jet Star booking in, weaving round and round various barriers. After an hour of queuing we get near the front and Calum asked if he can try booking us in on the JetStar machines that are now nearby. Surprise of all surprises, it works and we get our flight labels which we duly attach. Then we still have to queue to deposit the bags at a check in desk. This is the first time it's been this slow to be honest. Anyway to the desk we go. Then we see the maximum weight sign is for passengers to have only 22kg. Now up to this point it's been 23kg's and with Calum's scooter in his bag we know his bag is 23kg's. Panic alert, more excess baggage? No thankfully because of our other journeys we are allowed the extra, they just attach a heavy luggage label to the case. We get through security at 9.45am, the original time of the flight! Now delayed until 10.45am.
We grab a quick coffee and go to find the departure gate, No30. Past the other gates we go, in fact past lots of gates we go and down stairs we go until we are right next to the Tarmac. Yes, it's the last gate on the airport. Eventually we are called and told to board by the rear doors. We wander across the Tarmac to the plane and up the stairs to the plane. Eventually we take off. No entertainment, no food or drinks unless you pay extra. We land at Gold Coast airport at 12.30pm and collect our bags, pick up our rental car - a KIA - and take the 20 minute drive to the resort.
At Swell resort we are given a suite with a separate bedroom, lounge area, kitchen, bathroom and an enclosed area leading out to where the pool is. It's very nice but rather dark. Jen asks reception if we can change rooms and are pleased to be moved to a newer room with a balcony one floor up. It's much light and has views towards the ocean.
We've booked a 'big ticket' there are 4 theme parks nearby and the big ticket gives access to 3 of them for only $119.95 each (about £75 for entry to 3 parks). We are off to the first tomorrow, 'Wild Water' water park, weather is due to be about 25 degrees and sunny so should be great.
The beaches are spectacular and so when not at parks we expect to spend a lot of time on the beaches chilling. Up to now it's been a bit full on, looking at everything and visiting the sites. For the next 11 days we are mostly at or around beaches so have a change of pace. In 7 days we drive up to Noosa.
We only have limited access to WiFi here so the Blog updates will be a bit further apart, we'll update when we can!
